Selfhost Podcasting can work with the Podcast Player WordPress plugin to automatically add an audio player to newly created episode posts.
Find the settings in Selfhost Podcasting > Manage Podcasts > open a podcast > Connect Services > Podcast Player.
Requirement
The Podcast Player plugin must be installed and activated for the integration settings to appear.
If Podcast Player is not active, the integration panel shows an install prompt instead of player settings.
What the Integration Does
When enabled, the plugin inserts a player into the WordPress post content for newly created episodes.
The player uses the episode media URL stored by Selfhost Podcasting.
Important: this is added only when an episode is first created. Editing an existing episode does not automatically reinsert the player.
Settings
Automatically Add Podcast Player
Enable this to insert a player into new episode posts.
Insert Method
Options:
- Editor Block: inserts a Podcast Player block.
- Shortcode: inserts a Podcast Player shortcode.
Use the block option for block editor workflows. Use shortcode if your site theme or editor workflow relies on shortcodes.
Display Style
Choose the player style where supported by Podcast Player.
Hide Download Button
Hides the download button in the embedded player.
Hide Social Sharing Button
Hides social sharing controls in the embedded player.
When to Use This Integration
Use it if episode posts are part of your public website and you want visitors to play episodes from the post page.
You do not need this integration for the RSS feed to work. Podcast apps use the feed enclosure URL directly.
Troubleshooting
Player Does Not Appear
Check that:
- Podcast Player is installed and active.
- The integration is enabled for the podcast.
- You created a new episode after enabling the integration.
- The episode has a valid media URL.
Existing Episodes Do Not Get a Player
The integration inserts a player only during new episode creation. Add a block or shortcode manually to older posts if needed.
