Troubleshooting and FAQ
Feed returns 404
Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes. Then reload the feed.
Feed opens but episodes are missing
Check that episodes are:
- Published, not draft or scheduled.
- Attached to the podcast.
- Not trashed.
- Inside the feed episode limit.
- Using valid required fields.
Episode is Not feed-ready
Open Edit for Feed and complete missing required fields: media URL, title, description, and publish date.
Media URL is rejected
Use a direct audio or video file URL. A webpage with an embedded player is not enough. The server must be able to read enough metadata to identify the file.
Duration is missing
The plugin tries Media Library metadata, remote headers, and server-side inspection. If duration cannot be found immediately, a background duration repair can be queued. Some remote hosts block the requests needed to detect duration.
Feed uses local media instead of S3 media
The bucket URL may not have passed delivery verification. Check public object access, custom domain, HTTPS, ACL or bucket policy, and range request support.
S3 uploads paused
Open the podcast Error Log, fix the cause, then click Resume background jobs. The queue is paused without discarding queued work.
S3 credentials no longer decrypt
WordPress salts may have changed. Re-enter the bucket configuration.
Podcast Player settings are unavailable
Install and activate Podcast Player. Reload the Selfhost podcast screen.
Private subscriber cannot access feed
Check token status, expiry, feed use limit, episode use limit, and whether the podcast is still private. Regenerate or reactivate access if needed.
Website-only subscriber cannot listen
Website-only access requires an active grant and a logged-in WordPress user. For guest purchases, enable account creation if you want automatic website access for guests.
Migration button does not appear
The supported source plugin must be active and have unmigrated feeds with episodes.
Imported podcast feed takeover is blocked
Takeover is blocked for unsafe cases such as premium PowerPress feeds, protected or redirected SSP feeds, and source feed conflicts.
Can I create more than one podcast?
Yes. Each podcast has its own feed slug, settings, integrations, and episode list.
Can an episode belong to more than one podcast?
Yes, especially after migration. Be careful editing shared feed fields because changes can affect every attached podcast.
Can I publish video podcasts?
Yes. The plugin supports supported video media enclosures and VideoPress URLs that can be resolved to direct media.
Can I edit the website post separately?
Yes. Use Edit for Website for the WordPress post content and Edit for Feed for podcast-app metadata.
