This guide creates a public podcast feed and one episode.
1. Create a Podcast
- Go to Selfhost Podcasting > Manage Podcasts.
- Choose the option to create a new podcast.
- Enter a podcast name.
- Confirm or edit the podcast slug.
- Create the podcast.
The slug becomes part of the feed URL, so choose it carefully. Avoid changing it after submitting the feed to podcast directories.
2. Complete Required Podcast Information
Open the podcast and go to Podcast Information.
Complete these required fields:
- Podcast name.
- Description.
- Podcast website.
- Language.
- Apple Podcasts category.
- Podcast author.
- Podcast cover art.
Cover art should be square. For podcast directory compatibility, use artwork between 1400 x 1400 and 3000 x 3000 pixels.
Click Update Podcast.
3. Add an Episode
Go to Manage Episodes and create a new episode.
Complete these required fields:
- Episode audio or media URL.
- Episode title.
- Episode description.
Recommended:
- Publish date and time.
- Episode number.
- Season number.
- Episode type.
- Episode art.
- Explicit content setting, if needed.
- Transcript URL, if available.
Click Create Episode.
4. Check the Feed and Preview
Go back to Podcast Overview.
Open:
- Feed URL: use this for podcast directories and podcast apps.
- Preview URL: use this to inspect the podcast in a browser.
The feed is ready for submission when:
- Required podcast information is complete.
- At least one episode is published.
- The episode media URL opens publicly.
- The feed URL loads without errors.
5. Submit to Directories
Submit the feed URL to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other directories.
Do not submit the Preview URL. The Preview URL is for browser viewing only.
