Add Podcast Episodes
Episodes are the items inside a podcast feed. Each episode needs valid media, title, description, and publish date.
Create an episode from a podcast
- Open Selfhost Podcasting > Manage Podcasts.
- Open the podcast.
- Select Manage Episodes.
- Click Create New Episode.
- Fill in the required fields.
- Choose Draft, Published, or Scheduled in Save as.
- Save the episode.
The plugin creates or updates a WordPress post and stores feed metadata in post meta.
Create an episode from All Episodes
- Open Selfhost Podcasting > All Episodes.
- Choose the target podcast from the Add New Episode bar.
- Click Create New Episode.
- Complete the same episode form in that podcast's workspace.
All new episodes must belong to a podcast. The old flow that could create unattached episodes has been retired.
Required fields
- Podcast Episode Media URL: direct audio or video file URL.
- Episode Title.
- Episode Description: RSS/feed copy for podcast apps.
- Episode Publish Date.
When possible, the plugin stores file size, MIME type, extension, and duration. If duration cannot be found immediately, a background repair task can be queued.
Save status
- Draft: stored but not published in the feed.
- Published: included in the feed if required fields are complete.
- Scheduled: published by WordPress at the future date, then included in the feed.
Only published episodes are included in the RSS feed.
Edit existing episodes
On an episode row:
- Edit for Feed opens the Selfhost episode form for RSS metadata.
- Edit for Website opens the WordPress editor for website post content when available.
- View or Preview opens the public or unpublished post view when WordPress allows it.
- Trash moves the episode to trash.
Feed description vs website content
The episode description in Selfhost is the podcast-app/feed description. The WordPress post content is edited separately. On first creation, the description may be copied to the post content, but later edits are independent.
S3 media re-upload
When S3 storage is enabled and the episode already has bucket media, the form can show Has the above episode media changed since the last upload? Check it when you replaced the source media and want a new upload queued.
