Migrating from Other Podcast Plugins
Selfhost Podcasting includes migration tooling for supported WordPress podcast plugins. This is separate from importing episodes from a remote RSS feed.
Supported providers
- Blubrry PowerPress.
- Seriously Simple Podcasting.
The provider list is filterable for developers.
Start a migration
When Selfhost detects eligible source data, the podcast library shows Migrate Existing.
- Go to Selfhost Podcasting > Manage Podcasts.
- Click Migrate Existing.
- Choose the source feed.
- Choose the conflict strategy when offered.
- Start the migration.
- Wait for the batch process to complete.
AJAX migrations store temporary job state for the current user and process episodes in batches.
What migration does
Migration can:
- Create Selfhost podcast records.
- Map show metadata.
- Link or copy source episodes.
- Store source plugin metadata.
- Preserve source feed slug data.
- Attach episodes to podcasts.
- Mark migrated podcasts as imported in the library.
- Enable source-compatible feed takeover when safe.
PowerPress behavior
PowerPress migration can detect default feeds, custom feeds, and post-type podcasting feeds. It can identify unsupported or risky cases such as category podcasting, taxonomy podcasting, legacy PodPress processing, and premium feeds.
When source posts appear in multiple feeds, the migration can either:
- Skip conflicts.
- Duplicate conflicts.
Premium PowerPress feeds are not taken over because doing so could expose protected episodes publicly.
Seriously Simple Podcasting behavior
Seriously Simple Podcasting migration detects series feeds and creates corresponding Selfhost podcasts. It can block takeover for feeds using private, password-protected, redirected, or passthrough behavior.
Feed takeover
Feed takeover means Selfhost serves the migrated Selfhost feed at the original source feed URL.
Use takeover when you want to preserve:
- Directory submissions.
- Subscriber feed URLs.
- Podcast Player source URLs.
- External links.
Do not enable takeover if the source feed is protected, premium, still needed from the source plugin, or already controlled by another migrated Selfhost podcast.
Return control or disconnect
Imported podcast cards can show controls to:
- Enable takeover.
- Return control to the source plugin.
- Disconnect the migration.
Disconnecting removes the migrated Selfhost podcast relationship and leaves source plugin data untouched.
After migration
Review:
- Podcast information.
- Episode feed readiness.
- Feed and preview URLs.
- Media URLs.
- Source-compatible feed behavior.
- Podcast Player integration state.
